After almost 10 years of ownership, only 50,000 miles and 10 years of viewing this board and the old forum almost daily, I very sadly sold my 95 540 6 speed. The new owner (from the bimmerforum site) is taking it back to Mpls where I brought it from and wants to fix the rust on the door bottoms and keep it out of the winters - something I can't do since my old 911 is my third car I couldn't have 2 third cars and needed something I could drive in the winter and not feel bad about. At l least I know it going to a good home. He has had at least a few BMWs and his brother who looked at the car for him had a 93 M5 and now has a mid 80's M6 in his garage.

Thanks for all the help over the years everybody and sorry I couldn't contribute more.

At least I still have the plastic model Qube gave away that I did the horrible paint job on! Scott

Yeah, I know. I thought about it yesterday when I saw the model on my shelf and just started grinning.

Yesterday was 2/08. here's the old thread

Some good comments in there- I'm still laughing at that thread. Did muhammed Ali paint the car? You paint as well as I eat chili. Next time no espresso before painting, Did you use a 2 inch brush or roller for the trim?

Scott - always a bit sad to see an "old-boarder" get out of the e34 business... Strange how a car (& forum of course) can become such a big part of one's life.

I'm doing some maintenance now on the old 535, still an unbeatable car but the temptation for something else is always there... Although, I've yet to find another off-the-shelf car that rides as well as the fully-tuned 535.

I bet you'll be back. They ALWAYS come back... just look at JR! :)

Take care,

Robin

Yeah,, I finally came to the realization that we need a 2nd car instead of a first and 2 third cars. I just couldn't drive the the 540 in the winter anymore and not feel bad about the spreading rust. I'm sure I will be back someday. Never had a car that drove like that 540. Hwy, city, anywhere.

So... what are you going to replace her with? :)

Bought an 08 Nissan Xterra. I really needed something for the winters up here to haul skis, snowboards and all my and my kids' junk around. I just couldn't put the 540 through one more salt infested winter here. Plus the price was really good on the slightly used Nissan.

The guy I sold it to and I were laughing because in almost 4 years, I put only about 10,000 miles on the 540 and in the 9 1/2 I owned it I only put about 53,000 on it. I work from home in a smaller town so don't drive much.

I'm edging toward an SUV as well. The new X5s are too expensive. The X3s are ugly. X1s look promising... but I'm leaning toward an Audi Q5 if the 540 dies :/ Probably when the second baby comes. Got my hands full now :)

Hey, what happened to the 128i and 135i? Did they acquire the appeal of a couple of old refrigerators?? ;)

Wife had a baby. Replaced the coupes with a hatchback... albeit not just any hatchback :)
