I have a 94 525i, the engine cranks but will not start and the display says "trans prog". Prior for this problem, the car was running fine and check control ok. Here are some of the things I tried to isolate the problem.

- Engine cranks but will not start, checked spark plugs are dry
- No fuel pump operation
- Checked fuel pump fuse ok
- Jumped fuel pump relay, still no fuel pump operation (no hissing sound, no
gas flowing.

I thought a bad pump is the culpit.
- Ordered new pump from BMA and replaced it, still no pumping action.

Any ideas what to look next..sensor, ECU, etc..

Thanks

Sidney

The main relay may be out. Does the fuel pump relay socket get power when ignition is switched?

Martin,

Thanks for checking and reply. I did jump the main relay too (sorry to mention that earlier). How do I check fuel pump relay for power, which pins I need to probe at?

Usually jump pins 30 & 87 to bypass relay. Of the remaining pins, check one for ground, & the other should be switched power lead.

Also, look at the crank position sensor under the water pump, at front of motor. Jeff had his fall off, causing a no run situation.
