Throttle body "heater cover" gasket vs J B Weld

Throttle "heater cover" gasket vs J B Weld. As my sometime BMW tech says, "Those heater cover gaskets on the throttle body (on m20 in '89 525) fail all the time".

I'm working on third failure on two cars and am very suspicious of the factory cork gasket. The only reason for the "cover" is inability to or cost of casting the heater body in the throttle body in the first place.

So, why not seal the cover with J B Weld. First time last time, never fail and eliminate one more opportunity to practice "breakdown maintenance".

While I suppose there is some risk of the throttle body icing up, I bypassed it in my '90 525i when it started leaking. There were no unpleasant effects in the time I owned the car. That included driving the car in foggy weather near and below freezing temperatures, when you'd expect it to ice up.

Duh, never had a thought of why needed. What the heck is purpose? Not a very smart post on my part but I learned something.
