Some of you may recall my thread a while back asking what a catalytic converter should sound like. After avoiding the problem for almost a year and failing emissions twice, a new cat solved my problems. For those who don't recall, one cat was solid, the other hollow.

Usually I would have splurged and bought the direct fit cat from bma or the local foreign auto parts store but decided $500+ was too much for one cat. I ended up with a flowmaster cat converter from a local muffler shop that came highly recommended. Unfortunately, my dead cat no doubt is the result of an engine problem, be it a leaky injector or whatever. I will have to work on fixing the underlying issue but thought I'd share the results of running 1 good cat and one bad one, with 2 good, functional cat converters.

The difference between test one and two was marginal, and does not warrant posting here.

Amazing what one little cat converter will do for ya.

If you haven't change your ignition coil boots yet, it is now the time. This will solve majority of the unburned fuel problem.

Glad to hear you got it sorted, particularly as you had very little time left:)

Plugs and coil boots have been replaced. Not sure what kind of problems a minor valve cover gasket leak can cause, but I doubt anything serious enough to kill a cat.
