What is this part (M50 - Serpentine Belt Pulley system)

Hi,

I had my serpentine belt broken while the car was moving around 45 MPH and it siezed the Fan clutch. The car is a 525i - M50 (Build date Jul, 1994).

Since the Fan clutch is to be replaced, I decided to change the water pump as well.
The car has been leaking oil so I decided to do both the Oil filter housing gasket and the oil pan gasket. While getting everything off, I got of this part and cant seem to find it in any of the diagrams (or maybe I overlooked). This is part of the serpentine belt system and I dont know if I need to replace it or not.
Does it look like as if it is missing some part? Can someone point as to what part no is it?

In order to do the oil pan gasket, I also need to know the jack point in the front of the engine so that I can lift the car and put it on jackstands on the front two sides. I have read the forums and searched and it seems that different people have used it at different points (crossmember, thrust arms etc). What is the safest part to put the jack and raise. It needs to be there so that I have enough time to put jack stands. Is there a pic that can be shared?

I am working in my garage and the space is tight.

IIRC that might be a pulley. if your experience is the same as mine, the belt probably didn't break, that pulley seized up and the plastic wheel melted off, and that is why it doesn't look like a pulley. the belt breaking is a result of, and not the cause of, the pulley melting off. cost me about $35-40 two years ago.

go to www.realoem.com , insert the data from your car, and see which part you are missing in the belt drive. not 100% sure, but i think you might find that you are short a pulley.

Thanks. I tried looking this up in REALOEM and ETKA but cant seem to find it. The last seven digits of my VIN are GK48983.
I looked it up under belt diagrams and engine cooling but cant seem to find anything that looks like this. Is there anyway to see what this piece exactly is?

look at these pictures, and identify which setup most closely matches yours. the part that you took off isn't going to look like any of the things in there, because there used to be a big plastic pulley around the part. it might be helpful if you took a picture of the front of your engine for us.

notice how the hole is offset from the center? that's probably what you've photographed. the hole on the backside fits into the little nub on item 20.

Thank you Ryan. Looks like it is part 14 in the picture. I searched for that part# 11287841228 and came up against this..

Obviously the pulley is missing.

I have to raise the car from the front. Any idea where to jack it up under the engine to put jack stands on the front sides.

I use the front crossmember (green dot furthest right in pic), then place jackstands under the two closest points in the pics. You'll figure it out. I use a block of wood a thick peice of carpet to protect the crossmember hwen jacking.

I had seen this in the archives but wasn't sure. Thanks for pointing it out.
Now to tackle the oil pan gasket.
