My sunroof has been replaced twice under warranty and now is out again. Cost of repair is $1500.
Anyone had success with repair or getting parts. Dealer plans to install whole new cassette unit.

thanks,

what is failing? Replacing the cassette is an easy cure for all ills. A simple fix might be in order, specifics would help.

The sunroof was going to the back of the "cassette", but it would not pop the rear of the glass panel up. After removing the cassette, there are 2 metal clips broken. one is a pin with clip, the other i'm not sure what it was since it is in several pieces. On the dealer breakdown diagrams it's parts 10 and 11 on the diagram for 5 series E39 Sedan 530i USA 2003 L:54_0195 SLID.LIFT.ROOF-Cover/CEILING FRAME. The dealer sales only the total cassette, no component parts.

This is the best I can do without your VIN. The #s don't look like clips.
I would be inclined to find a different dealer. These parts must surely be available. I've heard of UK dealers being particular pricks, are you in the UK? If this is indeed true post your VIN last 7 and maybe a US member can provide the correct part #s.

Ross, super job! I was able to backtrack the site you sent me to and find the parts, they are on the other breakdown diagram. Total price is .45 DM. Thanks for your help, a tremendous benefit! Where do you usually mail order parts? The local dealer is so greedy that he charges local repair shops and parts places 10% above list. As a private owner, i can buy at list. However, in this case the dealer doesn't stock these small parts.
Thanks again, you've been a tremendous help!!

Rollon1,

Here are a few sites that can get BMW parts for you:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/
http://www.bmaparts.com/

You may need to call them and speak with a human to verify that they can get the parts.
