No Joy from the 540 after replacing the oxygen sensors and re-setting the computer. The DME is still shown as Fault. will start and idle, but as soon as a rapid change of the throttle is detected the engine cuts out.

Next step is swapping the DME, the part number is 0261200404.

Will any DME with the same part number work as suggested by various sites, or does the version ie: with / without cat make a difference. EWS II etc..
Do i take the chip out of my DME to put in the new module?

They can be purchased seccond hand of 're-conditioned' (read cleaned) from US or Germany pretty easily. Australia does not have the quantity of parts to make them economic. (read f@#$ing expencive) Which would be the more likely success......

Short answer is yes, matching the part number should work. Others may also work, but do some research. There are a few websites that list compatibility (just don't believe the first one you find). Remember that the one in your car may not be the original and, therefore, potentially not the stock part number. Also, Mark D on this board is a good source of DME reated info you can track him down. I've purchased used DMEs on the net with mixed results, one good, one bad, go figure :D

Anuhow, good luck with your fix,

Dave

i assume the prices are for the chip, not the complete DME..

No one listens... Intake leaks.

Like a typical Neocon keep looking left as they rob you from the right.

Have Checked intake leaks, also PCV and gaskets, injectors, cat, fuel filters and pressure (2.5 bar) coil and spark plugs..........

i do listen and check as best as possible, when the scanner gives a message of DME fault and nothing else works....
am fitting a replacement as trial today. will message back with results.

Do i swap the aftermarket chip (of unknown origin from PO) in?
(Dyno before / after would be interesting)

DME was $200, second hand. only one available. i do not want to kill this one.
