I did it the oher way old to newer.

I took the terminals out of the plug and just did it by trial and error until they worked.

stupid question, but why on earth would you intentionally replace the new ones with the old?

Although I'm pretty sure you could sell those new ones off to anyone that wants to do the exact opposite of what you doing. :)

The older ones also seem just a bit larger than the new mirrors. Slight advantage there if you like a bigger viewing area.

I never noticed a difference. Anyone with pics? when was the change?

Thanks Rus. I think i like the old. They're boxy, but they're good ;)

They changed them in Sept. 92 production date and on, same as when they started putting the M50 VANOS engines in. I think that's also when they started producing e34s with the M60 engines ?

One of the disavantages of going with the older mirror I found is price and availability of the replacement glass. The more recent ones, heated, are cheaper for some reason. Just could not find the old version online, so had to buy them from my indy for a whopping 100$ (CAD= 80$ US) for just one!

the earlier ones i got are still heated.

Yeah, my older ones are also heated. I bought a used mirror from bruno for $20. Luckily, it was the correct vintage as I wasn't aware of the change at the time.

two thumbs up from me

so how did the wiring work anyway?

why i'm curious ... does the pass side mirror tilt down when you are in reverse?
it's supposed to i think, mine doesn't tho.
mirror select is supposed to be on pass side for this to work i think

the wiring actually matched up no problem. no it doesnt tilt down when in reverse. only later model bimmers had that. no E34 ive ever heard of. everything works. theyre power and heated.

That only works on E34's with memory seats. As far as I know only the M-Sports & M540's had that out of the North American production E34's.

And I'm pretty sure the mirror select needs to be on the drivers side mirror for it to work. Will try to remember to check & make sure when I go to work tonight.
