anyway, here is what you wanted to know about unlocking the door:
http://www.bmwe34.net/Wiki/tiki-index.php?page=Locked+doors

Europe right hand drive = steering wheel on right is basically the U.K. The rest is left hand drive. That is a bit confusing, driving on the right side of the street is actually left hand drive, because the steering wheel is there. But it does not matter, see on my website the note:

Note: left/right hand side of car is from the driver's seat looking forward.
It is also confusing about which door, owners manual is also different. It actually depends on the production year. My Highline 03/90 I can open on driver door, earlier = old ones on passenger door. Yo have to try.

Quite interesting what I found about the ratio in the world:

Though originally most traffic drove on the left worldwide, today about 34% of the world's people live in left-traffic countries and 66% in right-traffic countries. About 28% of the world's total road distance carries traffic on the left, and 72% on the right.

If you are planning to visit the UK and happen to come from one of the many countries that drive on the wrong side of the road, the following advice, [B]direct from the Ministry of Transport, is for you:

“Visitors are informed that in the United Kingdom traffic drives on the left-hand side of the road. In the interests of safety, you are advised to practise this in your country of origin for a week or two before driving in the UK.” :D

Box has been emptied. Ministry of Transport, ha now this guy is brilliant. Yes I have lived in area where both sides are driven on. USA and Africa, Tanzania to be exact. My confusion was when they say drivers side or passenger side. For me it is either right or left side and yes facing forward, so there is no confusion. :)

Oh this is what I found on the link

quote
"This is for the driver door. The passenger door is the mirror image of the picture"

The locks in the passenger door turn in a different direction that the lock in the drivers door. you need to lift up & hold the door handle while turning (past the detent) to the emergency UNLOCK position. Sometimes it takes some effort.

You may also have to pump the handle while turning the key...but don't give up. You have much company as far as not being able to work it the first few tries.

Ah yes but are this illustrations drivers side left or right side :) I am assuming this is drivers side (left). ...My son finally had success during lunch time. He said he pumped the handle and rotated the key back and forth several times. And waalaa the door opened

The reason I used the private mail was that I thought you were hesitant to post how to open the doors to just anyone.
