It's freaking cold around here! I get in my car this morning after it warmed up about 8-10 minutes with the remote starter. I get in, put it in Rev. and the car goes nowhere. Put it in park and back to rev and it slowly goes back but the revs are too high in relation to how fast I am going. When I get out of the driveway and put it in drive same thing hardly getting out of it's own way. Thoughts of turning around but it got better as I went. Is it the cold and what should I do ASAP.

If it worked ok yesterday, first thing has got to be look for a puddle of ATF where you parked. If ATF level is OK then my guess is you have a pressure valve or solenoid sticking somewhere. No trans prog? Lots of info from Shogun about the valve body rebuild if you have that sort of box. And you dont need to take the tranny out. On a completely different subject, I'm just wondering what parts from a 58 Magnette you can use in another car

deleted your description but is exact symptoms of clogged trans filter. Change thet and add the required amound and should be good.

Same thing.. Check ATF level! Change fluid and filter is the best thing you can do for transmission that are least likely to be taken cared of... You would change oil every 3000 miles or so but alot of people forget or won't bother with transmission that need every 30,000 miles or so.

I think original advice still stands. I'd be checking for any stored fault codes although they are normally accompanied by 'transprog' message. You can check the ATF pressure - procedure is in Bentleys. If thats low I'd replace ATF and filter and try again. I still think you may have a sticky valve somewhere as it has been stood.

How easy is it to address a sticky valve? Should I do the filter, fluid gasket first and then report back with positive or negative results.
Is it difficult to change the filter and fill with fluid? Off to check the Bentley's.

The hardest part is refilling the tranny with ATF but if yours has a dipstick its a piece of cake. You drop the sump and unbolt and replace the filter. Top up with the correct amount of ATF and are good to go. You need to inspect the pan for swarf and clutch material of course. Yours isnt giving you the normal 'transprog' which you would get if an input/output sensor was out or if you had too much slip. So I'm concluding its a pressure issue. To me that means the atf isnt being picked up, the pump isnt working properly or the pressure valve isnt working. As yours works fine most of the time I'm concluding its the latter. Its also the cheapest option so I hope I am right:D

Someone said that shogun has this documented. Where can I find it?

oh and no error messages on the dash although yesterday I got a power steering message. Not sure why, it's steering fine.

Click on Shogun's profile and pick the statistics tab. Go to all threads started by Shogun and you will find loads of stuff of interest including work on the valve body. There is even a video! I have loads of info about my tranny including the workshop manual on disc. But mine is the 5hp18 aka A5s310z and IIRC, yours isnt.

I checked the Bentley and reviewed the filter change and I assume the fill is the dipstick tube?.
Checking the pump seems like a different matter though. Looks like a need a diagnostic tool for it? Not sure but I'm looking into it.
Still need to check Shogun's site.
