Tie Rod Removal

I am getting ready to do a complete suspension & steering rebuild on my E34. Will a universal-type (2 piece) tie rod removal tool work on the center track arm? Or do I need a "U"-shaped remover?

I successfully used a U-shaped ball joint remover when working on mine. But it was not a solid fit as I remember.
