If you have a '89 535i and a few minutes, could you help me out?

I need to replace a couple of relays, but don't have reference to originals (long story).

Do your relays look exactly like these (fuse box under hood)? Photo is from an E32, hence the question.

The dealer has no reference and relies on the color for replacement, so I am hoping to find out what the original relay colors were.

Thanks in advance

That is the wrong approach. The relays are there based on year of production, and also often based on the options the car was originally delivered. And a E32 relay box can be different from a E34 box.
This for example shows you a 1987 E32 735 in EURO spec fuse box with the details.

The best you can do to find the right relay is:
look into your fuse box, wrtite down for a relay how the spade sockets are set I - / and so on, there are also numbers.
Then compare: the relay drawings here, you can see the spade location and the numbers

Also see here, every relay and it's position is described in detail

Much appreciated. Hadn't seen it before, and with an E30 and an E34 I really appreciate that site. Figured out that a relay was in the wrong place.

Thanks again.

How come, with one lonely exception, EVERY fuse has been replaced?
