Is it just the back end that gets dirty on the E39s Dave?;) Very tidy!

Look like someone updated the taillight lenses and front to clear... in 1997 to 2000 they had amber tails.

Yup, it's got a 3498 cc V8 that wasn't sold in North America. All the power of the 530i with the fuel consumption of the 540i... :D

Yup. The previous owner updated the fronts to Angel Eyes and the rear to (supposedly -- I haven't looked) LED clears. Very common upgrade here in the UK; maybe everywhere?

Thanks! I'm not (or, er, wasn't) a big fan of E39s either but they're getting too cheap to resist.

that sounds like the M60B30 we were lumbered with here in the states
all the power of an M50 with none of the performance

Sweet car Dave. Never seen that colour combination before though! The green seats would take some getting used to...

Thanks! The green is subtler in reality than the software-enhanced flash photo makes out, and I manually adjusted the white balance because I forgot to set it before I took the pics. It's almost black with only a hint of green.

Looks nice. At first, I thought 3.5 I6 is back? But it's V8.
