My insurance company pitches a fit when paying for standard OE glass. I wonder what replacement glass for this baby costs?
The protection equipment that must have once cost oh so dearly doesn't seem to help resale 15 years later.

Actually that's not true for resale cost... He chose the poor method for selling his car. These cars are typically sold by those specialty dealers who only deals with these type of cars... and the prices are sky high even for used old car. Do a search on internet for US sellers and you will see what I mean.

Unfortunately for us in USA, it is not possible to import that car... maybe it is possible through those qualified outfit but glass is one issue... very costly.

I think in Europe the owner needs a special police permit to drive a B6 protection, because if it comes into the hands of some dark elements, it is difficult for the police.

That car fetches for sure >50K $.
Was built in the last month of E32 production = 03/1994.

I know a guy in Germany who has a protection, he says very expensive to maintain, terrible fuel consumption because of the weight, heavy wear on sus and steering, wheel bearings and tires. That is the price one has to pay for protection, and the limiter for max speed is also less than the normal 250 kmh of the 750iL, because the tires cannot stand they load at high speed.

i guess that babbelfish can't do everything. what president does the description say that this car belonged to? it doesn't even say what it is "resistant" against. i wouldn't buy a car based protection system if it couldn't do a decent sized rifle.

i should google first then. b6 stops nato 7.62, soviet 7.62, 5.45, 5.56 et cetera. doesn't say anything about bigger sized rounds, or multiple aimed hits, ap, et cetera.

specification sheet for cen b6

suburban with b6 spec table

All armor is protected from multiple (3) shots

WEAPON CALIBER AMMUNITION VELOCITY
Rifle 7.62 x 51 M80 Nato Ball 2,750 fps
AK-47 7.62x39mm M-1943 2,400 fps
Sub-machine-gun 9x19mm LCJJ 1,400 fps
Tokorev 7.62x25mm LCSJ 1,600 fps
Hand Gun 44 Magnum LWC 1,443 fps
All these photographs are vehicles supplied by PKI to Iraq and other High threat areas

i guess if i could gas up mah tokarev another 100 or 200 fps, and hit it with 8 of them, i could get through. regular 1600 fps tokarev goes through the nato crisat helmet (7.62 nato resistant) ok.

I think the car is beautiful. Maintenance schmaintenance. I'd make it part of my emergency get out of Dodge kit. Damn these Europeans. Why do they get all the cool cars.

As far as the tires not handling the load. Don't run-flat tires have twice the thickness? Perhaps run-flat tires would finally be put to good use on this car.

The president's car has a foam insert between the tire and the wheel so when the tires are shot, the sidewall doesn't collapse and they can drive away. There are alot of choices for tires nowdays... you can get like 6 ply tires if you want.

Someone from the german 7 forum contacted the seller and asked for the former owners name. Was a company car owned by E.O.N. group, and for the President of that company.

I have asked my German friend to contact seller to get some more pics from the control panel switches in center console. Must be interesting to see these.
Have you seen these funny things inside the doors? As it says "active defense system", that could possibly some' holes' for the weapons to shoot thru the closed doors.

Germany Revisits RAF Terrorism Verdict
By SPIEGEL Staff

In 1981, German authorities handed down verdicts to three members of the Red Army Faction for the assassination of leading business figure Siegfried Buback. But new information reveals that they may have missed the gunman.

It was almost exactly 30 years ago that Germany's chief federal prosecutor Siegfried Buback set off to work in his chauffeured, dark blue Mercedes for the last time. Shortly after 9 a.m. on that April 7 morning in 1977, a motorcycle pulled up next to the car at a stoplight on the outskirts of Karlsruhe in western Germany. The motorcycle passenger proceeded to fire at least 15 bullets into the car. Buback and his 30-year-old driver Wolfgang Göbel died at the scene; the head of the chauffeur service Georg Wurster, 33, succumbed to his injuries six days later.
