Hi Fellas,

Long time no post.

I have this creaking sound that seems to come from the steering wheel column when the steering wheel is rotated left or right. Also, after shortly starting the engine, the SRS light blinks a few times then it stays on indefinitely. The steering wheel still feels smooth when it is turned in either direction. The power steering fluid is at normal fill. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hector, there is a brush and ring type connection under the steering wheel that makes that noise after a while, not sure if the SRS has anything to do with this.

It can be you slip ring. Do to age of your car, that can cause the creaking noise and also faulty SRS light to come on. You would need to take the steering wheel off to change. Easy to do but disconnect battery and wait few minutes before unplugging wires that leads to slip rig.

my guess as well.

SRS warnings do not reset on the e34, so you'll have to visit the stealer or a indy with the proper computer tools to reset the SRS indicator after the clockspring is replaced.

Jeff & Rick,
Are you guys talking about the same thing? Even though I am car savvy I am a little out of my element. I have no clue about these repairs you guys suggest. Any diagrams or sites you can point me to? I looked in BMWe34.net but didn't find anything useful related to this problem. My Bentley manual blows in this department so for now I'm dead in the water. The search function is acting up on my computer so I'm getting no where there. As suggested, I will take the car to the auto repair specialist as I have been doing lately. I''m too busy nowadays to see after the car's needs, and even on weekends. And to top it off, I just got my hands on a couple thousand solar cells that are sitting in my garage for a project that I hope to get to sometime in my lifetime!
