I have line on an engine. It had lost oil pressure but supposedly went into limp mode because of this. I heard the engine run and it made no bad sounds.
Are the M70s prone to the same oil pump maladies as the V-8?
I'd love to do one with wild cams, carbs and stacks or mechanical injection. Then stuff it someplace it doesn't belong.

No, very seldom I read that, not like the M60/M62 engine.
But banjo bolts also can get lose, so better check that, and that is a major undertaking to get to the valve covers.
5-7 hours for a DIYer. Both intakes have to come off, but that is a good chance to reseal them and also to replace the fuel hoses inside the engine room, plus the coolant hoses on the firewall, and the fuel return lines and the hoses to the charcoal cannister, and cleaning the trottling valves.
And replace both distributors and -rotors.

That is the basic to do when you buy one.
