Bimmer looks better, pfft only 18 times the mileage. No brainer the Bimmer looks better and worth the additional fuel.

It more looks like a 50's kind of a car. But, Opel being european, I can't imagine what cars looked like over there in the 70's.

So what the hell kind of mods did they do to the other lesser performers anyway ? In what manner are these four stroke engines so different ? Too bad the article doesn't cover that.

One thing's for sure, petrol rich countries would not want cars to perform that well. They need an income, and they own a lot of shares in a lot of companies. Guess who has power...

I think I remember when this test was done. I recall reading that several things were done, like wrapping the entire engine in inulation to retain heat )heat = energy), super high pressure low rolling resistance tires, and that the "normal driving conditions" is a bit of a stretch. I recall they turned the engine off when coasting down, and re-started to get up to speed. The article is very light on these kind of details.

Ahh... almost the same as the modern hypermilers are doing with their hybrids and regular vehicles. I managed to eek out 3-4 MPG but not as much as they could... I want to read more to find out how to do it right.
