So we (Me and my brother Greg - "Mendozart") just finished getting everything installed and sounding good. First thing was getting the C43 unit wired into my 89 525. The adapter wiring harness supplied by EAS did the job (65 12 8 350 192). Next we added the DICE Silverline interface for iPod. The text doesn't work on the radio (I need to upgrade to a CD43), but it sounds great. I also like that the docking connector charges the iPod.

I thought that the CD43 was only compatible with E34 1992 and up but not with the 1989. I don't know the C43, you say that you used a cable adapter will this adapter do the job facing the CD43 also ?

Could you elaborate a bit about the Ipod adaptor, where did you get it and how do you install it ?

Thanks

The C43 is the cassette version of the CD43 CD Version Business Radio. They both become compatible with the older E34's using (65 12 8 350 192) or (65 12 8 350 188) adapters. The iPod module plugs into the I-Bus connector in to the back of the C43 or CD43 head unit. It replaces the CD changer in the trunk. I got the DICE unit at: http://www.europeanautosource.com/index.php?osCsid=83b5add82ff838d98b773ad76fb003e7. Ask for Tom G and tell him Ralph sent you.

On this site they do not advertize DICE unit for E34 just E39 and up :-)

As I said in the message, call Tom (Tell him Ralph sent you) and he'll take care of you. Their major business is probably E39 and up, but the do have units that worked in my 1989 E34.

Is the stock Alpine Cassette inmy 95 e34 a c43? I bought some flimsy harness adapter on ebay for 6 bucks i that plugs in to the stock plug to which I planned to try plugging my Aftermarket Alpine CD player but if there is an adapter that will allow me to plug an IPod into this existing BMW Alpine head unit i'd rather try that...

It's probably a C33. The Dice unit will not work with this unit because it is an M-bus. The C43 and CD43 are I-bus units. You can pick up a C43 unit for pretty cheap and it would be plug and play with the Dice unit. Does your HU look like the pic I posted? If so , that's a C33.
Claude,
On Ralph's car we had to first use the wire harness (65 12 8 350 192) which converted his stock harness to fit the C43 unit. You would need to pick up this wiring harness, then you would be able to plug in a C43 or CD43 unit. From there you would be able to plug and play a DICE unit.

That would be a model #KE91ZBM Ver. 2, it's the same unit I have in my '92 525. This is an M-bus unit and the DICE unit will not work on this HU.

Oh well..I have an aftermarket Alpine I;m going to try and wire up with that adapter i showed above even though the wires don't appear to correspond 1:1 with the harness.. A little trial and error. at least Now I do know if I go ehad and get a CD43 it will work with the Ipod adapter.. thanks for the good information.
