Water pump out too far?

I just changed the water pump on my 1994 530m. Putting on clutch fan I see that plastic fan hits the shroud handles or slots on the radiator. Bought this thing from bma and now they are closed. My only alternative besides taking off pump and putting new one on is to cut off the shroud slots. Has anyone ever had this happen?

On some fan clutches you can change the way the fan mounts. IE in front or back of the clutch.
Can't account for the reason your pump is different but you might gain enough room by fooling with the fan. Good Luck.
