Time to upgrde E34-E38

Hello all,

Over the last 7 years ive turned into a complete bimmer nut!!.. for something a little less racy and more comfortable for the long Autobahn journeys!! So an E38 seems like the obvious choice.

Problem is i what the best one i can afford, 2001 M-sport 740i individual! and im struggling to find the right one with full spec, right colour combo, must be a dark colour not green/red and no beige leather for me thankyou! Cream is ok!

Basically im looking at a Orient Blue 740i and a Purple 728i individual similar prices, but the 728 is the slightly better car. Will i be disappointed with the lack of power especially if i want to cruise at 120ish with a straight 6?

Can anybody help with figures, spec, faults, what to look for, etc.

You help and advice, as always is hugely appreciated.

From what I've read in TotalBMW, the 728i is slower / less powerful than the 740i. You're comparing a V8 with a 6, and both engines are hauling around more than 2 tonne (metric) of metal, leather, electrics, etc around. TotalBMW reckons that the 728i is still a good buy, but it will take longer to get to 120 than a 740i. I think you will especially feel this coming from a 540i. I think any fuel savings you'd think you'd be getting with the 728i is thrown out the window as the engine will need to work harder to haul all that weight around.

I'm no physics whiz / mechanic whiz so if someone else comes into this thread and proves me wrong, feel free to side with him / her :D

Thanks for the comments, the seats are original there the split fold option.

The extra fog light switch is for the fog lights! the fog light switch panel is a blank hinged so it opens to revile the Snooper!!...

I drove the 728 this evening, beautiful car, but i could get out out and run quicker, maybe the trans needs resetting it didn't respond well to my touch!!

Was the remote control drive on the phone only available on the 750il?!?!:D

Don't think you're going to do any better on gas mileage with the 728 over the 740. At least find a 735 if you don't really feel like going for the 740.

And good luck on the sale of your car. Interesting looking at it and seeing all of the different items on it that aren't on my M-Sport.
