Down the road, when i actually get some money saved up, how much would it cost me and how hard would it be to swap a 530 or 540 engine into my 95 525? The paint and interior on this car is almost pristine and i would hate to go find another car with a good engine but poor asthetics. It makes more sense to me to just give it a bigger engine.

Nothing is impossible but what you are thinking is probably too much work. The engine and gear box difference is obvious. You know from the output shaft of the gear box to the rear wheel the 540 also has a heavior setup because of the additional torque and HP. This is likely only one part of it. ABS, cooling system, brake booster, steering, almost everything in the engine compartment is different.

And electronics..

Still want to do it?

ha ha no. i guess ill just do what everyone else does to the 525's and do a chip, exhaust, etc.

an s52 swap would be easier.

Its cake man. Buy an M60 with trans with accessories with harness and and ECU and you're good to go. Granted you'll need the brake boost off an M60 car as well. But realistically if you're not scared of swapping then its totally doable.

OR, go FI. Which I recommend regardless.
