Hello,
When I got home from work today as I pulled into my driveway and stopping a low oil message started flashing on my dashboard. I shut the car down right away. I gave the car 20 minutes and I checked the oil level. The level is just fine. I check this and all the other fluids every weekend. I checked the haynes manual and it tells me that I have an oil level checker for oil level when the car is running and when it sits like before you start up. It also has oil pressure. Oil pressure isnt the problem oil level is. Does anyone know how this oil level works, is it like a float sensor or what. I dont want to harm the car and drive it and I would like to look for the problem Sunday and make it better. I did check to see that the wiring is hooked up and didnt come apart, all seems ok there and the warning light went out. Does anyone know if this is something that needs to be replaced every so often. Any help would be greatly apperciated.
Thanks
Johan

check the plug connector, clean it, maybe it helps. On my 750 the plug was crumbly and fell apart and therefore always the pins had contact.

The connector from control side which goes onto the connector from the oil level sensor you can buy from BMW, costs only a few $, but not the connector which sits on the oil level sensor. So you would have either to solder it, or find a new plug. With the help of my friends I got them all, 2 pins and also 3 pins. Bought from a Bosch Service in Germany.
Part numbers you can find here

I bought a lot of these
