You certainly have tolerated a lot with that car. Yours seems to have been a poster child for all that can go wrong from neglect and a harsh climate. I'd have run out of love a while back.
You deserve a medal. Hopefully this car will reward you instead.

i dunno if i deserve a medal or a slap-around but it's kind of you to say so ross. it runs and drives really well and the body's in pretty good shape now if everything had busted at once it would have been easy to say goodbye but each time something goes it makes sense to do the fix besides i'd need to find another car that fits the cello in the trunk believe me i've looked around. when i got it for cheap i was expecting problems and really really looking forward to fixing her up but not expecting everything to go in the first year (one paycheck at a time it seems) even with the winter we had here. i was helping a friend with his %^$#box '94(?) tercel the other day and prices for parts aren't too far apart tho... i can see saying goodbye to a rusty tercel but who scraps a beautiful 20 year old car just 'cause one of many $200 parts died? i just eat less :(. just passed a year with it.. original plan was to have it fixed up for it's 20th at the meet but i'm still turning screws and reading the #&$%ing bentley and just want to get it ready for next winter and then to stop spending all my time on it. one of these days tho i'll add up the bill and post it for a laugh and a cry.

i hope it rewards me too (no really?)... but if it doesn't i'll have an awesome parts car for the e34 (schwarz) sedan i replace it with.:D

I'm in my third year of ownership, and I also keep fixing things here and there, and the damn thing just keeps getting better and better. I just had my water pump replaced, it busted and I was stranded in Berthierville, and it turned out I also managed to fix a few issues with it by replacing a burned 7.5A fuse. I bought new carpets for it, painted the rust, still have to deal with the rooftop and minor paint issues, replace a plastic part for the driver's side window to work again...

Sometimes I too wonder about keeping it. But I'm really attached to it and proud to own it too despite the occasionnal hardship.

The sound system is great enough for me, it still runs great and looks good. Just love it.

I'm 1.5 years with mine, I love it, but the slowness is getting to me. I find myself not wanting to put any more improvements on it, as saving for an M5 just seems to make more sense at this time.

Can I point out you're missing the cover for the screw in the handle?

ya i know wiseguy. it's a little further down the list ok? :) what's really weird about the back doors... i have one ashtray that fits in both doors and works, and two ashtrays (and counting) that don't work in either wtf? i can't see a difference in any of them it's psycho.

i guess i do find all this rewarding i just want to do something else with my life soon. geez waddaya know ben moves to the states now he has to buy a bigger motor TRAITOR!:D

Me. :p e34's in the UK ain't worth a sh*t. It's usually cheaper to get another one than throw $500 at a fault, then another $200 and another $.....

It does sound like you've had a rough time with this one though. Well done for persivering where others (me included) would have quit.

If looks like the connector for the ABS sensors. Is it a coaxial cable attatched?

there is nothing attached i found it exactly like that. i'm pretty sure my abs works and the dashlight comes on.

edit: ohhhh silly me... there are three smaller guage electrical wires going into the back of one plug and two smaller guage wires going into the back of the other.
