Hi,

I have a 1995 530i/5sp manual. When I turned on my fan, only very hot air came out. Is this a common problem?

Thanks in advance.

Faulty heater valve seems to be a common fault - it is solenoid operated and if it sticks in open or 'on' position then you get hot air even when you don't want it. The valve is attached to the heater water hoses in engine compartment, near the fire wall. You should here or feel the valve solenoid operate when heating is selected. Sometimes the valve parts seize up inside and can be loosened up (you need to remove it) to get it working again.

It's a commom problem on E34 and E32s. Try this link for the fix

I was able to free up the valves by lightly but smartly tapping them with a long 3/8" extention and a large adjustable wrench(they were handy). I read somewhere that it worked for someone else. Next time it would be the first thing I try and I'm sure it won't work then.
