i think I figured the occasional central locking problems lie in the trunk hinge area, however upon returning to my car in the airport the trunk would not unlock. It manually unlocked but will not open the trunk so I figure the wires at the hinge need to be taken care of ASAP. How do I open the trunk to fix this?

Mmine wasn't unlocking from the remote .I just tried finessing the key in the lock you know slight repositioning turn then again and i eventually got it to open. I think its ; key in at vertical then left 90 deg then right 180 to open.

The rear lock is fully mechanical isnt it? IE if the key turns 90 degrees left or right, the cylender should still be okay and the car should unlock.

However... underneath it's a mechanical lever that has to be pushed forwards, and if this is buggerated, you've got a really hard job on your hands getting the boot open

Look in your PM, instructions how to open the doors and thr trunk without key on page 12, including the tool with dimensiosn you have to make. :D

Courtesy of some special instructions for emergency workers in accidents etc., cannot openly show that here.

k, got it to open but now cant get it to lock shut, like its not engaging or something stupid. taking the trunk cover off, the linkage must be loose or something.

Jeff,
Is the button fully popping out? One of mine was acting this way, a good soaking in VD40 cured it.

LOL... the button doesn't want to pop out on its own, its fully lubed and nice and loose too. I will pick up another lock mechanism and then disassemble things. I think maybe the spring inside got chowed by salt or something. Took like 10 minutes to get it to closed so I wont mess with it till I get a replacement.

Soak that MF in oil and work it a million times, it'll free up. Mine got to the point where I had to use a pliers to grip the partially turned key while pulling. Works fine now.
