M50 to M50... if you have Vanos (build date sept. 92 and forward), it's the exact same engine. Otherwise, they redid the cams only, not the whole engine, so it should fit just right. Check out Realoem.com with both build dates, I'm sure it will confirm it.

yes. just that you need to make sure you always order parts for a post 7/92 manual as it is the weaker getrag gearbox.
you will need the matching shifter assembly, xmember, guibo and driveshaft...

are you going to bastard shaft it and keep the auto diff, or getthe correct diff and use a full manual DS?

m50s before 7/92 used a zf310, thus the difference in parts

guys thanx for ur help but i decided to keep the 94 525i granite silber and part out the 92 auto alpine weiss..:(

ok now i have a 9/93 production date e34 94 525im do i have the weaker getrag 5 speed? please let me know...

so let me get this straight.

from the above replys:

any manual trans produced for an e34 after 7/92 is considered a superior transmission than pre 7/92?

yes. just that you need to make sure you always order parts for a post 7/92 manual as it is the weaker getrag gearbox.

Uhm, from the above, it above appear otherwise. I can attest that the Zf.310 is pretty tight after almost 550k kms.
