Standard replacement engine for 1989 525I ?

Hi folks ..I have just bought a 525i Au to sedan 1989 with 160,000 miles (import from Hong Kong)
The M20 engine needs replacing ...looking in wreckers , Ebay etc'..
I have been told that some other BMW engines will fit ...can anybody suggest some choices..not looking for anything other than standard.

Im assuming a 520i, vanos and non-vanos and also 525i vanos and non-vanos?.....

From what i have heard it doesnt need any chassis modification....

you need a m20b25 engine. look on ebay or the wreckers like you already mentioned but why can't you rebuild the current engine?

The M50 will have a different transmission. The poster will need the M20 engine.

Chevy LS1 is a almost direct replacement ;)
Add a T56 and a custom prop shaft ;)

Thats my replacement for a m20....soon
