Just added some refrigerant, problem gone.
BUT, if you're using the Bentley manual, know that the pin indications for the socket holding the A/C compressor relay on a 1993 525iT are incorrect on the wiring diagram.
Just lift up the empty socket cover next to it and you can see the wires and make sure you have the right ones.
