Hi, any body knows how many check balls does the 5HP30 transmission have?? is it 2 or 3 check balls??

it is 540i 1994.recently I got a problem with my transmission & now I am trying to resolve the problem. I started off by disassembling the valvebody.

Thanks alot, I really appreciate it, I found one check ball worn & moved through the plate & stuck into wrong place in housing 2. I hope this would solve the problem.

Typical problem... that should solve the problem. Do the complete kit.

Oh... I see the issue now. Can't send someone off to a vacation... say Germany... to pick up the parts while on a mini vacation? Not everyone can do this... yes.

I don't know how much Kirt would charge you to send the kit to you... I think the entire kit is like $130... and shippng to Baghdad might be $50... Is that still cheaper than you buying at your local source? I think Jaggi will do that too.

Local stealer here said it cost 400 US$, I'll go tomorrow & check with other shops, I am thinking in buying used VB, used parts here alot cheaper than the rebuilding kit from the stealer.

Hi fellas, I went today & bought the whole kit except for housing 3 springs, I bought it seperately & it was without part numbers, unfortunately I lost the old springs positions:( , does any one of you have a picture for housing 3 springs?? or a picture showing them like the attached picture. I'd really appreciate it.

Ok guys, I went with VB rebuild, I replaced all the springs, pistons, Orifices & check balls except for housing 3.

When I went for a test drive the car is running very smooth and there is no slipping anymore but the following symptoms showed up:

1-rough shift from 2nd to 3rd gear.
2-rough shift from 4th to 5th gear.
3-rough shift from 3rd to 2nd gear.

could it be caused by faulty solenoids?? or faulty springs in housing 3?? any ideas??

You have to give the adaptive transmission time to 'relearn'.
Also double check the fluid level.

Did you put in enough fluid? Fluid must be warm but not hot when checked on the lift. Car must be level... pump fluid in until it start coming back out while the engine is running.

What fluid did you use? You must NOT use Dextron and others.

Thanx Ramon, I'll give it time to relearn.
