Rear Fogs to Brake Lights

Has anyone converted the rear fog lights to rear brake lights? In AZ many pinheaded drivers need more convincing you are braking and 5 lights would be better than 3. I have been rearended 4 times and want to keep my E34 on the road.

If you tie it into the regular brake lights does it trigger an OBC problem warning?

I did the opposite mod a couple of months ago. When I bought the car, some previous owner had wired the rear fog as brakelights. No problems, however it wouldnt pass inspection here in Norway so I reverted it.
