So I'll be getting some commission soon and I want to sort out my front suspension once and for all.

Symptoms at this stage are:

A funny knocking sound when the car is stationary and switched off and swinging the steering wheel from side to side, also some play at highway speeds... => Adjust steering box and replace tie rod ends??

Ride over uneven surfaces is OK, but applying brakes over bumps and ruts brings the most awful crashing sound from especially the front right. Really seems like some bushes are worn and it's metal against metal.

I am terribly finicky about things like this so I want it sorted one time.

So what would you put on your list of things to check / replace?

Kthnxbye!

Get someone to turn the wheel from lock to lock while you have a look underneath. This will show up where the knock/play is in the steering as well as the bushes on the bottom wishbone. I understand steering box bolts have been known to come loose so thats something to check. A knock on breaking could be anything but something that bad could be a broken spring. Push/pull the front wheels and 9 and 3 o'clock -it will help identify problem joints/bushes. HTH
