I thought I was going to fail but he checked out the whole car and passed it. Emmisions were OK and at acceptable levels. Problem areas are the brakes and struts. He tells me the rotors are warped and too thin to cut which is why it's shaking and the struts and upper strut bushings are shot, which I knew. Quotes me $1200 to fix. If I let him do it, it's still a cheap car but I'm a wrencher so, I am going to do it myself.

I'd like to just stick to stock on this baby so what am I looking at $$wise for parts?

Should I do the autozone, ebay or catalog thing for these parts?

What' been your experience?

Thanks
Vince

I don't know where you live, but that sounds pricey to me.

NY and of course it's expensive.

So where should I source these parts out?

Try one of the online suppliers such as Pelican, autohausaz, BMA, etc.
Autozone is usually a poor choice for BMW stuff, price and qualitywise. If need an air freshener, stickers or a fuzzy steering wheel cover Autozone is the place.
How about a look at those MGs?

just did most of my front suspension this week. ordered everything except shocks and springs from BMA. The shocks and springs I ordered from Shox.com. Good prices all around.

I bought all 4 touring Bilstien struts, aluminum lower control arms, sway bar end links, and rear OEM springs. Previous owner had recently replaced the upper control (thrust) arms. Parts were like $450 total from fleabay, $900 to have them all installed, the car 4 wheel aligned and all the tires/wheels rebalanced at a local independent shop. Car rides stellar now.

My mechanic mentioned that all else was nice & tight so I'm going to just stick to the bushings and Struts. How can I tell if I am getting the right part on eBay. I'm new to this BMW stuff and the parts kinda confuse me. MG stuff is like second nature to me. Speaking of MG's, here's a shot or two.
