Trans oil...'90 525 M20 Getrag 260/5...

Not trying to mislead anyone. This is from a Getrag S5D-250G on my 95 525i m50tu.

The Getrag 260\5 boxes use Gear oil & i think the 260\6 does too

My 89 E30 has the 260 and ive seen a few older E34 525i '88.'89 era that use them too. If it doesn't have a ATF label on it probably use SAE 80 gear oil

You know when you drain it so not really a problem.

Just put some MTL into mine, not as notchy, smoother and eliminated my little bit 1st to 2nd gear syncho grind.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to confirm the right tranny oil for my '90 Getrag 260/5. There is no label on the tranny. Pretty sure it's SAE 80 GL-4...going by memory...it's been 2 years now. I went with Redline MTL last time. Not bad, but still tough shifting 1-2 when cold. Thinking of trying Royal Purple. What do you think?

Do you have a coloured label? Should be on passenger side of bell housing.

5-speed Getrag manuals have labels? never seen one.

That's a bit of a different animal. Pretty sure the older getrags didn't use ATF?
