It's warmer out and the e34s are coming out of hibernation. So, make those final repairs such as changing out thrust arms bushings, shine the paint, condition the leather, and I will see you in June! It will definitely be the biggest E34 meet we have had yet. Rusty to Show Shine, if your E34 is driveable, make sure you don't miss this year!

We can't wait, this is our FAVORITE time of year. Trying SO hard to get an E34 of some sort to drive up this year. Everyone make sure to register!

Hey! Who's that REAL ugly guy standing beside my old M5?

It's time to advertise!!!! Get the word out....hey, where's it at anyway?

Kris drove down today, had a real nice visit....you should have came along Brandon...

JR
Hmm, ugly guy, I was about to say that, lol. Well, Jr, just wanted to learn a little more about that M540i signature you have. Are we going to see it at the meet?

Like I said, you should have come down with Kris...:p Lori asked what Kris had to say.....I told her he just kept saying in that deep Polish accent, "You sonofabiaacchh, you sonofabiaacchh....dats nice, you sonofabiaacchh! :D

Yes, one of 135 will be making the trip. Wouldn't miss it for anything. Didn't really know I'd be back in another E34 so soon. Especially after looking around for maybe an E36 M3 or 330 convertible, something about them I really didn't care for, and then I happened across this M540i...took Aubrey with me to St Louis to look at it...and brought her home. I think she likes it here.

The power is different than the M5 was, it's more lineal with a couple helpings more of torque down low where you need it. Yet it sits at stop lights dead still....and quiet, despite the Dinan exhaust. It has quite a few features the M5 didn't have.....so do I miss the M5? Naaaww, not now.... Kris said it was a US '95 M5...I guess that's one way to look at it.

I wanted to add to people that they are encouraged to register. You will receive updates about the meet via email when you register. We are looking to do a few things differently this year, but we need a good e34 car count.

Jr, I am can't wait to see that M540i and be able to take a ride in it.;)

Great question. We generally go until the evening. Most people stay until 3-4pm. Since this year will be the biggest, people will probably stay past 4pm. Since we are close to southern WI, where ever you have to go isn't that far away. Come and stay as long as you can. It's the people we meet during these meets that counts, not just the e34s. :)

Will get back to you later this week. Before I search, I would suggest something closer to downtown Chicago so you can enjoy the sites. The meet is about 45min-1hr north of downtown Chicago. I live in Chicago so I can get a Caravan going in the morning.

Here's what Google Maps popped up nearby. However, I agree with Brandon on staying closer to downtown. It's always fun, the girlfriend and I stay for a week after the meet and poke around town, and i'm sure we would all show you around town if you aren't familiar with it already. If you're just in and out for the meet, the ones below might be good options. If you opt to stay a few days and enjoy the town, I'll get with Brandon J to come up with a better list and have it integrated into the meet website so check back in a few days.

Also with the weather thing....the past 2-3yrs we've had this meet, it rained the morning of and as soon as we park it just stops! Sun comes out, and it's always a beautiful day. I guess it's tradition :D So if you see rain in the forecast, don't let that discourage you. Worst case, we can all find a parking garage nearby i'm sure. We're very resourceful.

It was a lot of fun in 2007. It was my first time at an event like this so I didn't really know what to say but it wasn't like that. Very nice to talk to people who know what you are talking about before you even explain it. Control arm. Radio code, nuf said.
I have a bunch of pictures and even video from last years meet, if there is interest i'll think about editing it and host it on my website or on youtube.

Shameless plug...Sadly for me, I got a job transfer in 2007 and moved to NY, it will be hard to get there esp since i just now put my car up for sale in the classified section.

If it hasn't sold maybe I'll fly to indy, pick up my car, drive to Chicago again.

It was great to see you last year. That video of the meet is a real head turner. It is the only way to show all the e34s that attended. There were a lot of them. The meet is getting closer and I can't wait. The 20th Anniversary of the e34 and still it can compete with todays cars.

There's exactly one month left till the meet. Who all is making the trip this year? Registration is done through the Sticky post at the top of the post page, but it doesn't give the names of members attending.

Who'll make the journey this year, despite gas prices? I know I'll be there, and there are a couple of people that I've invited to register that might attend.

Time is running thin, get that E34 road worthy and burn some of that $4 a gallon gasoline to attend the largest E34 event in the world.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, it will be one of the fastest days of your life, it's that much fun!

See you guys and gals at the meet!

Hey Jr, people can see how many e34s are signed up here: http://d1sinfo.com/bmwe34sig/?page_id=4

The shocker is there are always people who think nobody will show up. However, every year, a lot of e34s attend and those who decided not to go regret it. Here are a few pics of us getting ready for the meet. Notice Kris cutting a hole in his freshly painted Daytona Violet M5 for euro side turn signals.

Love that pic....even though the reflector paint is my E39 :) Oh well, it's my 2nd fav model :D I'll be making the trip from Texas, and we will be around for the week after if anyone wants to hang out. This has kinda become the annual trip for the girlfriend and I. :) Looking forward to seeing all of you.

I am hoping to attend. It's all down to whether the car is done or not. The paint is coming along smoothly.... the engine work, however, is slow.

Who is spending the night at a hotel?

Hey JR.. As "one of your invites who needed to register".. I'm in and looking forward to it. We have some plans to hang around north Chicago, maybe downtown as well the day after the meet. I also posted an offer for anyone on the forum to join us on the trek from the south (I-65 N from Louisville, then likely 294?).

See you there... AJ

Good job AJ, you're guaranteed a good time and more E34's than you'll ever see in one spot. If you need some tips on where to go in the city for sightseeing and the like, the guys will gladly provide some information for you.

Do you have that new Supersprint exhaust on now? How do you like it? I know a few M5 people that would love to hear it at the meet, including me!

See ya soon,
JR

Undecided on which vehicle to bring

800 miles for me at 20mpg = 40 gallons times ~ $4.5 per and i get $180 one way. i'm not going. :D

on the 919 > 800 miles at 50mpg = 16 gallons * ~ $4.5 per and i spend $72 bucks one way. motorcycles rule! ;)

Just a friendly warning for those not familiar with this northern part of Rt.12:

"Northbound" Rt.12 can be a massive speed trap on the weekends (lots of people speeding up to Wisconsin for the weekend?) So be on the lookout... ;)

I live a few minutes from Rt.12 in Wauconda.

It's official.... my 5er will not be at the meet. I should have it completely done Thursday night, but that simply isn't enough time for me to work out the bugs. I can't bring myself to haul her out there and risk being stranded.

I WILL, however, be tagging along with Denton in his 5er. See you all there!
