View Full Version : Slight Vibration Braking on Highway- Causes ?

I get a slight vibration on the highway when braking from about 100 km/h (±60 mph), just touching the brakes. Seems to not occur whenever I brake hard. Otherwise around town all is fine.

I had the brakes changed not too many miles ago, and had the problem before the new brakes which seem to have cured it.

So I begin to suspect the discs rather than the pads. Can that be checked ? Any other possibilities ?

Thanks,

Eek ! Rotors and brakes were changed about 8000-10 000 kms ago (nov. 2006). Well, I do press hard on it. Would that be premature wear, still ?

You should to check your control arms, you have the typicall behaviour when they worn out. Put the 750i buchings with your control arms, they last much longer. I think you can buy the kit with those bushings already installed. Check your calipers too. Alex

Well, that sounds like it. The direction tabs were changed around two years ago too, so it would not surprise me that the arms and bushings are the culprit.

Is Lemfoerder the absolute best as Bruno states on his site ? What of Meyle ? Bavauto's performance parts ?

+1 - I had the same thing - Control arms.

Actually the control arms had been replaced over a year ago. It turns out though that it's rust on the rotors of the brakes. A couple times of very hard braking have remedied it.

The rust accumulates as the car stays put for days at a time.
