Using them on my car too. Nice seller and he makes them in his own small factory.

+1 works good. Put a slight dent in the surround because it's pressure fit, but works good. It's either this or the 'ultimate cupholder' that goes on the side.

These are nice. Ive had one for years, the foam for the passenger side fell off the first day but it doesn't affect anything.

Does he make any for the E30?

Foam fell off? Actually you can glue in foam (self adhesive) so that sizes fit. The bottles here in Japan are a bit smaller in diameter. So I just bought some self adehesive foam for window sealing to get the right size.

Don't know that he makes some for E30, he owns / owned an E34 and a E32 735, that is why he made them.

Maybe you find here a good one for the E30

I'd rather have my ASC than that cup-holder, not that I have any choice now. Looks decent but I'm using the accessory option one from BMW but mounted it on the phone compartment (no phone) over the hand-brake lever (still works fine).

what was that? I've never seen it?

also, does the original one mentioned in the thread interfere with 5th gear on 5 sp e34s?

(and i'd also like to use this opportunity to mention how much I hated the HVAC controls on my old e32)

This is the BMW part:

The image URL could contain the part number: 82111468721. With minor mods, turning it around 180º, and some rubber trim attached, it fits on the center console compartment (phone mount location) and hangs over the handbrake lever. I use it for my cell when I'm not packing a drink.

Wow, I'm surprised nobody has just made a replacement plate that goes around the shifter with holders that sink into the underside. There's nothing under there, anyway. Maybe I should make that...

Except it doesn't hold anything that's wider than a soda can.

If it is the same one that Bav auto sells, I would not get it for spirited driving. I had a cup of starbuxx in the car and took a turn and the thing slipped off spilling my coffie all over the passanger seat and floor.

They don't really hold anything for ANY driving. Even a fairly light turn can knock the thing over, especially if the drink is tall. They came with my car but unless you find a way to actually mount them so they won't move (I think someone on the board screwed it into the center console) they're not so great. And yes, wider drinks don't work either...

For this very reason is why I do not allow drinks in my E34. I know no one means to spill their drinks, so if you do not allow them in your car then you do not have to worry about destroying the interior. NO DRINKS ALLOWED!

Just like I have never understood why cars have ashtrays in them. :D

say what?
the tranny tunnel is less than an inch below that, along with a buttload of wiring and noise insulation.

I have the bmw one and it is fine... though many drinks don't fit, the skinny 24oz do and 12 oz cans. A little Goop and you don't have to worry about it flying off during cornering

My only issue is that i need a short shifter and a normal shift knob
my OEM lever with the auto's t handle stuck atop it hits anything in the holder when I go to 5th.

I use the ultimate cup holder. It holds just about anything at some pretty crazy g forces. Its also low profile enough that it doesn't really interfere with anything. Can be used LHD/RHD with no problems.

Shame there are no RHD versions of this. I have to resort wedging the soft drink bottle into the centre console :(

Right-hand drive???

shogun

well, RHD?? someone claimed to him in the U.K. so he does not like to sell it to right hand drive countries. BigKriss wanted to buy one, not sure if he did so now.

I can imagine that the one side might disturb on a RHD. Not sure thou.

I have it since some years installed and I am very happy with it, especially as no glueing or bolts are necessary, no more scratches on the wood console by slipping keys and mobile phone of my wife ;-)

I also liked the way it fitted and looked as you say.
But its no good as is - I hope he makes a Right-hand drive version.
Can we find out?

not enough demand for RHD. Last year I asked him to start production again as his old tool for production was no longer usable. So he took the risk to order a new tool for LHD version cupholders which cost him >$1000 when I confirmed to him that at least 40 people would buy from him. With 40 sets he would be even.

Hmm, well I just ordered two for RHD, will have to see if he sends them... he doesn't make shipping ouside the US easy tho... bah!

Seriously, how do cup holders get better than this without being built in?

Defiantly the best for e32/e34 particularly if he made a RHD version.

contact him via the *bay message. But for Germany earlier this year he informed me the cost as following, so to Australia should be the same I assume:

Hello Erich,
For reference; the total cost for shipping and handling for one cupholder is $17.75 when sent by USPS. The cost for two is $23.20. The added cost is for repacking into a different box, and having to take them to the Post Office, as opposed to having them picked up at our location.

Thanks,
Herb
---------------------------------
and that was the old price for the cupholder:

Hello Erich,
Prices for shipping the parts to Germany are as follows:
Cupholder Shipping
1 set $29.95 + shipping $17.75
2 sets " $23.20
3 sets " $30.65

Product would be shipped the least expensive way which is USPS First
Class International.
--------------------
For RHD something extra is out of question I assume, he never will get back the cost for the tool for such a small qty.
Try the LHD ones and let us know.

That I am hoping to do. I have no need to be upset if they don't sit right in the RHD car. Can always lop off the RH holder or do something innovative with it... that is why I ddn't get them earlier. However at $20ea, I'm keen... will post back with pics of fitment, left hand leg clearance (if any) and so on. Thanks for the updates/info Erich!

Kris and I have these in RHD. One holder is useful for drinks only. The un-usable holder is just greaaat for mobile phones and IPods, as they sit in the dark cave under the climate control sliders, so you can see them light up.

Definately good for holding cups solidly though. No troubles.

Works in 5-speed manual and auto. Not sure about six speed manual in RHD, proly okay for LHD though.

I suspect that they won't work very well with M5 surrounds, so it probbaly isn't M5 compatible.

Still no good c/h options for cars with the ASC button? I've tried the one that hangs on the door pocket & the one that slips over the edge of the console. They both suck big time. Anything else out there??

Tiger
09-14-2011, 01:51 PM
Drill a hole on the one that sits on the edge of the console and screw it in. Or use double sided tape They worked really well for a long time.

John B.
09-15-2011, 01:40 PM
No interest in running screws into my console housing but I may try the d/s tape idea if there is room.

Tiger
09-16-2011, 08:57 AM
Plenty of room. Stick one on the inside of the console... give it a good length for more strength. Stick one on the outside... Then insert the cupholder at an angle... to get the inside in first and then bring the outside down to contact.

try dry tilting practice to get an idea how you can insert the cupholder to engage the double sided tape on the console.
