I need to collective wisdom of this forum to help me out. I currently have a 1992 525IT 5 spd which I love with 220,000 miles. Mechanically it runs great, cosmetically it's certainly not perfect; but for a daily driver its been great transportation. I've just been offered a 98 E36 M3 with 41,000 miles which side swiped a wall for $1,100! So....

1. Would you pass on the deal & keep driving the wagon until it dies
2. Purchase the M3 and swap the drivetrain into the wagon
3. Sell the wagon and part the M3 and buy a 993.

Thoughts....

Take the m3!!!! What will it take to fix it????

If you can, be patient and locate some body panels and whatever else it needs. Then, you can enjoy em both or sell one intact. I have a feeling transplanting the M// power train won’t be ‘worth the squeeze’.

My $0.02

No brainer, throw the engine in the wagon, part the rest. Especially if you have the zf310 instead of the getrag.

JUST because I question what kind of money you could get from both that would buy a GOOD 993. A good 993 is a joy, but one that isn't... is a HUGE unenjoyable money pit, and will leave you with a permanent niggling worry feeling in the back of your mind, even when it is working fine.
