I Just not pulling hard enough?
Help
Very possible, i'm small enough that I can straddle the shifter and do a "dead lift" to get the knob off. Mine was a pain to pull off, i was replacing mine so I didn't carer if I did break it. I didn't break it in the end. Try twisting it a little bit left to right (not too much though) while pulling up, just to get it to move a little bit.

If you pull it more than twice you are playing with yourself.

Sometimes when I drive the e30 I get the knob off on accident.

I agree. Use a heat gun SPARINGLY to help. In a pinch, use a hair drier. I've pulled on mine to much it's easy to do now. Erm.

You might have to straddle Sam-son's nob. But just be gentle at first!!:D
