View Full Version : can i get away with not changing the crush washers on the rad. screws

Went to the $tealership today and bought some coolant...then read the bmwe34.net instructions on changing it...i did't get new crush washers. big deal? or not?

He is probably talking about the washer on like bleed valve or the temperature sensor... if so, no, you can't get away from it... because it will leak... if not, you are lucky.

If you are talking about waterpump bolts, thermostat housing bolts... then yes, you don't need new washers

I have never changed mine. It's not necessary.

He's talking about the ones on the drain plugs.

For the oil drain plug, you must, as the times I've tried to reuse them, I got slow drips....

copper washers are generally reuseable if flat and non scored, aluiminum is in the same boat but are much easyer to screw up, fiber and rubber washers are non reuseable
