Hi there,

I have a question about the No.6 cable with the inductive pick-up. What does this thing do and can the car run just fine without ?

The reason for this question: I would like to mount some Magnecor wires under the hood like i did with my E36 - 318iS.

Thanks for the response,

Otto Mulder, The netherlands

For example: One photo of the specific cable, the other one is my car...

It's the cyl. identification sensor, you need it. If your aftermarket wires don't have it you can use the old one but will need to remove one of the ends to feed through it.

Thanks Ross for your quick reply. By the looks of your " rank " you should know. Funny thing is: the car also runs without the connector connected. How about that ?

Magnecor ( Steve, mag@magnecor ) is willing to buy a inductive pick-up at a local dealer and make the right cable for me. That's service from the old days ! It will cost me about $ 50 to $100 extra and that's where the trouble is because, you know about the dutch being cheap and all...

The rank just means I talk too much.

Well, thanks for that talking, I hope you're not BS'ing me ;-) If you say tht this is neccesary to have ( that inductive thing ) than i will buy the extra inductive thing for my new set of cables.

I've got several different answers so i got a bit confused. I don't want to spend my money on things i don't need.

Maybe the engine controller has got a limp mode where the engine controller can guess what signal the #6 sensor ought to be making (if was fitted) - but presumably the engine will run better with the sensor rather than guessing. Hopefully Ross will chime in here!

You can use the old one, just thread the new wire through it.

Steve at Magnecor offered me to pick up this sensor at a local dealer and fit it on the No.6 cable. It is a bit hard ( without the special crimping tool ) to fit the sparkplug caps right. I'll leave this to the specialist.
