So, o/d is slipping pretty badly under partial throttle at the 40-60 mph range (right about when the shimmy kicks in, that's a whole other thread) so I started to get excited. Busted trans + tax refund = new drivetrain, right?
Well.
I'm having trouble (1) finding a donor vehicle and (2) a straightforward writeup. I've searched and searched, apparently my search-fu is weak. So, my questions:
1 - What year / model transmissions will fit on my car? Can I sneak over to the 325i side? Are there particular makes / models of transmission to avoid, or are all the manuals pretty much bulletproof? (If there's a chart out there that cross-references application, that'd be swell)
1a - If I can source a 3-series, will I need a new driveshaft?
2 - What other considerations should I be aware of?
3 - Where can I buy the bloody thing? I know to avoid Vines like the plague, but that's about all I've got going for me.
4 - Needs to be cheap. Any sellers out there want to unload an old wrecked salvage car with a good tranny?
