92 525i, had a heating problem, replaced upper hose, fan clutch, and no coolant was circulating in the system, thought it was the thermostat, took off cover and there was no thermostat previous owner removed it. Thought it was the water pump, took off replaced it and still no coolant circulates through the cooling system without a thermostat installed. what can it be?
can it be the auxiliary water pump or what else?

Please reply!

You must have a thermostat in there for proper flow... that is a dual stage thermostat with two passages to control instead of simple one passage like american cars. Get the right thermostat in there... bleed the system and check again.

It would be nice to have a cooling system pressure gauge to rule out possibility of blown head gasket.

Yes you need a thermostat.

like above, you need to properly bleed the system or you will have air pockets and no circulation. No thermostat is VERY bad for cylinder wear, never run without one.
