Hi all, just this second joined so hello to all. Bought a 93 540i about 3 months ago. love it to bits and its in stunning condition. Has quite a history too. Bought by the King of Jordan and used as his car while he was in the UK.

Anyhew, i am trying to find info on Nikosil issue, can anyone help? i have looked at the engine numbers but am being thick! cant see how to work it out. Can anyone shed any light on my engine number? 50140501 ? dont have any engine issues (touch wood) but just curious.
thanks for any help all !

I haven't priced an aftermarket exhaust. Still has the stock sound but Here (http://home.comcast.net/~cpkver8/images/rt31.mov)is a little video giving you a little idea what mine sounds like.
Requires Quicktime Player.

Where are you finding that number? If all else fails or maybe even easier is to Call BMW either your UK headquarters of a local dealer, give them the VIN and ask them to look for recall/warranty service. I called BMW USA and they told me after i gave them the VIN that my engine had been repaced under the Manufacturer recall in 1999 I evetually even spoke with the particular dealership which did the short block swap. So it may be that easy. Everything I've heard though suggests the Nikasil promblem was less of an issue in Europe.

The number is on my v5 (registration papers) it holds all details of the car. Am not too worried about any problems as the car runs like new (touch wood) it has been maintanied regardless of cost by the previous owner (King of Jordan) just curious about it thats all. thanks for help Jehu

Sure. The number in question is Stamped in the Block. you have to get under the hood and look along the cylinders.

Regarding sports exhausts mate have a look at these guys:

http://www.mijperformance.com/car-exhaust-models.html

They come highly reccommended by some of the UK board members, usually they'll do a loud but not obnoxious custom stainless job from cats back for around 300 to 380 depending on your requirements.

:D

(Guess who's looking for a new exhaust at the moment then :P )
