Has anyone installed one of these and are you happy with the results?

TIA

not required, as the bmw amp is set up to accept a high level input... you jsut on't get to turn the knob to MAX anymore.

Looking at your list, if you want to add a stereo to the 93 525i with stock speakers, the best thing you can do is actually dump the weak little amp section and let the headunit play them thru the factory xover.

20w x4 peak vs 40-50w peak. It makes a HUGE difference in clarity, above and beyond the gains from simply having a better head. :D

So if I pump 50W per channel through my premium sound system amp in my 540, it will be OK?

It should be fine greg. please correct me someone if I'm wrong, (I'm all open to critisim on my comments here) but it's always better to have a amplifer more powerful than the speakers becasue clipping (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipping_%28signal_processing%29) by the amplifier being underpowered is what destroys them.

It also depends it that 50W is PMPO or WRMS.

I have run both 50W peak (clarion head) and 80W RMS (external amp) thru the factory system.

No problems either way.

now please realize that you cna run a aftermarket head into the factory amp...
but you will onyl get to use the factory amps 20w output...

or you can yank the amp chips and their board out of the 92-93 amp and patch in your own amplified (head or external amp) input.

... and then replace the speakers and....

One step at a time.
I have this thread for reference if I need to bypass the amp
