Mr Graybeard has suggested I try an ice trials event near me. I woke the GF and before she fully had her wits about her tentatively AGREED to go out all day in sub zero temps to watch me make a fool of myself.
My old 535 will be the "racer". I'm currently running a set of Nokian WR all season tires which I love, most agressive "all season" I've yet to see.
In my basement all mounted and ready is a set of Dunlop SP winter sport M3s that I had on hand for the touring which said GF has forsaken.
What is the consensus here on which tire will better serve me?

not knowing much about the nokian's, i would plump for the dunlops, i used to have a set of grasspics on my pulsar in the winter and they were pretty good, they were only q rated though (about 85 mph tops). The good part though was i got them for free

Or better yet go for the Hakka 4's which are available from Nokian as well. I have these tires and absolutely swear by them here in Chicago. Wife has the Dunlops on her Volvo and after 3 seasons they are starting to show their age and she commented on how much she likes the feel of my car in the snow even thought it is rear wheel drive.

I agree on Hakka spiked winter tire for ice racing... Talk to those who races on ice... I think the requirement is spiked snow tires.

If you don't want to spend any extra money, It is tough choice between the two... Being a Nokian fan... I would say the WR... but ice racing is totally different condition and I'd probably would slap on the Dunlop snow tire you have.

you can race on ice without spiked tires, but it's obviously muchdifferent.
