I hope Winfred or someone can help me with this. I bought what I thought was a 1995 540 engine and transmission along with rear suspension. I now find that it is from an e38 1995 740. Can I put this 740 M60 into an E34 1994/1995 540 car? I am worried that the wire harness with the 740 engine is not compatible with the connections of the E34 car since the 1995 740 is the first yr of this model. I will have all the computers needed but am unsure if the loom connectors will match from E38 to E34. I guess I should not assume that the transmission is also compatible. So my other question is if the automatic transmission is also the same from 740 to 540? If the parts will only work in the E38 model would they work in later model years after 1995 or just that year since the motor went from 4 liter to 4.4.......Thanks to all in advance for your help.

On another note I want to mention how cool one aspect of the E34 car and that is the ratchet adjustment for the alternator and power steering belts. No crow bar needed. Just turn the adjustment bolt and lock it down. No knuckle knocking and a great fine tune for adjusting or changing belts.

When I did the 6 speed conversion and engine replacement the engine is from a 93 740 (e32?) The engine is identical to the 95 540. The wiring harness has very minor differences and is interchangeable. I end up using the E32 engine with the 540 harness.

I'd imagine the E38 should work with E39 so you may have a problem.
