Im guessing this is impossible and have what may be a stupid question.

Most here would be aware of the trouble im having with my m20 leaving deposits on my plugs. I still have not had a chance to work on it, it will probably be all next Saturday. However, I wanted to ask about something thats been on my mind.

I have a 1984 533i with ~200k miles in not so great shape (some chassis damage, ect) with a M30 which I think is in fair condition. I want to run a few tests on it before making any decisions but I was wondering if it would be wise to attempt a swap with my e34 m20?

Would this swap be more complicated since the engine is coming out of an automatic e28?
Would an e34 m30 ecu work?
Would I need a different transmission?

I have never done a swap before, but just playing with the idea.

the m30b34 is slightly less powerful then the m30b35 from a e34 but it's close enough, you will need the harness computer and brackets from a e34/32, i can't remember if all of the holes are in the right side of the block for the engine mount on the b34, sort of like when i put a b35 in my 81 633 i had to make a plate because then eliminated a couple of the holes in the later block

i made a 1/4" plate that went to some other holes near the mount (one or two of the holes were in the right position so i use that to position the mount) and threaded the plate and bolted the mount to the plate
as for a tranny a 5 speed will work between the e34 and e28 but you will need the driveshaft, crossmember and shifter assembly
