I just looked at a 2005 530i and the car is from the States (I am in Toronto). The car is listed at having 15k kms on it. Seems rather low for a 2 yr old car. The dealer told me that the car came from a BMW dealership in the Pennsylvania and all the conversions have been done. The car looked meticulous this evening and I want to go and take another look at it in the day time... I just want to do my homework to ensure that this car is clean on the US side. Can someone help me out and do a car fax and let me know where this car's history stands. Your help would be appreciated.

By the way, I still intend to keep my 95 525ia even if I do get this car. I love it too much.

Thanks for your help.

No problem Brian, glad to help out. I just bought my wife an '04 530i....it's titanium silver with gray leather, very nice with navigation, sport package, premium package, cold weather package, adaptive xenon headlights, L-7 sound system, and the list goes on...I was throughly impressed with all the features and the ride/handling is incredible because of the active roll stability that comes with the sport package. The active steering is remarkable and takes some getting used to. But it is something every car should come with, I love it. Everything can be controlled through "Voice Command" through the I-drive system.

You've made a good choice Brian, good luck with the purchase.

Remember to buy Ray-Charles style shades to go with the car so you won't have to look at it as you approach from the outside.

Car is still under warranty in US... should be of no problem... Gosh so low of a mileage for 2 years old car!

make sure that you can:

A - use the warranty if the car is plated outside of the US.
B - use the warranty at Canadian dealers.

A friend of mine had a Viper, warranty was voided since he bought it new in the US and titled it in Canada. Another friend can't get Canadian dealerships to honour his US warranty, so he has to drive across the border to get his car serviced.

Things to keep in mind.

the warranty is good in Canada as well. Just called BMW Canada and we are still good until late 2009. Not only that my insurance would only go up $50 (fully insured) for the year... (not bad being the car is 10 years newer than my current 95 525ia). So I am going to take another look at the car today in the daylight, give her a good run on the highway just to make sure there aren't any funny vibrations. And we will take it from there. Gave Bruno a call, showed him the car... and he is good to go as well to take a look at it.

Jr.. Thanks for the insight, you have just pushed me a little closer to buying this car.. The only knock that I have with the car is the cream interior with the burl walnut looking trim... but for the price I am willing to look past it.

The car is white, with cream interior, burl walnut trim, premium package, active headlights and the usual BMW goodies...

I will let you know where this all goes... so far so good.

But I am not going to move on this one... I went to go and see this car this afternoon looking to see what I can find wrong with the car.... afterall it was priced approx. 8-10k less than market prices. Well I found something... when I looked at the interior, it was way to dirty for a car that only had 15k kms on it. So I looked up and all I saw were a bunch of odd looking stains on the headliner. Not sure what the cause was, but enough for me to walk away from this one. It is unfortunate b/s the car ran and looked good from the outside but if I am going to spend almost $40k+ on a car, I need to have peace of mind knowing the car is clean inside and out. Thats the part this car was missing. So one opportunity gone, hopefully another will come.

Happy Holidays all.

Yeah, there's a whole bunch of 'em out there, you did the wise thing to walk away. Now that you know what you're looking for, it's just a matter of time before the right one comes along. Take your time, you can afford to be choosy.

Every time that has ever happened to me, there was always something better on the horizon.

We went to the dealer one day last fall and drove what Lori exclaimed to be the best car she's ever laid eyes on. It was a 2007 530i in Titanium Silver and Dove Gray interior, nav, sport, premium, cold weather pkg, it was loaded. The price was also loaded, almost 63k....wow! So the story ends with Lori driving almost the exact same car with the only difference being the comfort seats..... for $34k less....it pays to keep looking.

Keep the faith Brian, if you find another one, pm me and I'll do the Auto Check for you, I still have about 6 weeks left and I would be happy to do it for you. Consider it a Christmas gift....=)

You do owe it to yourself to drive one with the sport package, there is an incredible difference in the way they handle.

Merry Christmas,
JR

My mother bought a used Lexus a year ago which also had some strange stains on the roof, but it cleaned off with hardly a touch. Just a thought, but anyway there are plenty of those cars out there
