i held off on the first round as i thought you would be overloaded but now can't stop myself from sending a pm for my own car.

i asked the dealer to get a service history but they wouldn't give me one as they said in quebec it breaches some privacy law, so i can only guess where it's been all this time. thanks qube!

better than i'd hoped, i can tell it was well maintained by the original owner and he had it until 2002! sweet! i'm the 4th owner 80,000km later.

what else shows up on these? all i have is registration renewals and change of ownership. i'm happy about this - how happy should i be?

Never rely on Carfax if you're buying a car but use it as a warning if anything shows up. Don't figure everything is fine if nothing shows up. If you already own the car, don't fret it.

Remember, Carfax' biggest market is dealers who want you to believe Carfax is infallible. It's not. Think of it like a Blue Book value; it means nothing but it gives you something to go on. I own a Toyota truck that was totaled by my insurance company ten years ago. I bought the salvage, rebuilt the truck, and it has a clean Carfax. Go figure! I'd say in the case of serious damage, chances are less than 50-50 that Carfax will have the record. Maintenance/repair incidence is even less than that.
