ediabas diagnostics

Does enybody here uses ediabas to diagnose their e34?
I need help in setting up. I'm using ediabas OBD interface connected to BMW ADS or 20 pin adapter.
Is this setup possible?
Right now I only can get the software to tell the status of the vechicle and it tells me theirs no codes but nothing else works.

I use carsoft with an interface but can only get stored faults, not live info. But I'm happy with that-you get what you paid for. Think the 2 are interchangeable?

No I don't think they are interchangable. Ediabas interface is much simpler.
